Cleaning and care of your bimini and boat canvas, cushions, etc…

Sunbrella is a “magic” fabric. We had our canvas done in 2016. The Canvas shop in Kemah, Texas (Sundowner Canvas) was very specific and clear that the canvas does need to be cleaned and waterproofed so sustain its life. The recipe was quite simple:

NOTE: Wear gloves

50% Clorox (1 C)

50% Ivory Snow (1C), (Dreft or Woolite will do)

  1. Remove each canvas piece

  2. Rinse

  3. In a bucket add the Clorox /detergent solution and begin with a (hand brush) 4 -5 inches of base brush and has a handle, to scrub both sides of the Sunbrella material

  4. Rinse

  5. Hang to dry

  6. Spray with 3M Waterproofing, or 303 or your favorite waterproofing solution (After testing my favorite is the 3M)

  7. Let dry

  8. Spray a second coat of waterproofing

  9. Turn over and spray one coat of waterproofing on the inside

  10. Dry (be sure it is totally dry before rehanging canvas)
